Stephen undertook his primary studies at NKST Primary School Mkar, Benue State (1958 - 1961). He subsequently attended the Government Craft School Makurdi, Benue State (1962 - 1964), where he obtained his Senior School Certificate. He then obtained his General Certificate Examination Certificate from Government Technical School, Ilorin (1964 - 1967). He undertook further studies in Printing Technology at the Watford College of Technology in Hertfordshire, England.
He worked at the New Nigerian Newspapers Limited, Kaduna State from 1968 to 1988 and resigned as the General Manager (Operations).
As a devout Christian, he was ordained as a Deacon in 1984 at the United English Baptist Church (UEBC), Kaduna. He also served as Deacon at New Estate Baptist Church, Surulere, Lagos and United Baptist Church Jos, Plateau State.
From 1988, he worked as Executive Director, Tripod Holdings Limited, Lagos with special responsibility to its subsidiary company - Integrated Press Limited as Managing Director / Chief Executive.
He co-established and setup Midland Press Limited in 1990 and was its Managing Director / Chief Executive until 1996. He set up Trinity Graphic Systems Limited and Trinity Press Limited where he was Chairman until his demise. He served as Chairman, Board of Directors, Benue Printing and Publishing Company Limited, Makurdi, Benue State; Vice Chairman and Director of Mbayion Community Bank, Gboko, Benue State and Secretary, Gboko Local Government Area.

- Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants (FIMC)
- Member of the Insititute of Printing, U.K. (MIOP)
- Associate Member of the Institute of Engineering and Technicians, U.K. (AMIE)
